Machine Embroidery Workshop with Alison Smart - by Pat
I set out this bright and sunny morning with far too much fabric, scrim, sheers, nets, threads etc., etc., but we did not know how much we would need and I thought that there would always be somebody else that needed a bit here and there.
However, when Alison arrived, she had also brought along a substantial shop and yes, I did buy things but I needed them, we all did, there was such an unusual array of hand dyed items. Also some very interesting patterns.
After the usual introductions and talk from Alison, we all set to work, starting the day by experimenting with the built in stitches on our machines. We then proceeded to free motion techniques, which we had started by drawing on to paper. The time flew by and it was time for lunch.
After lunch, the real fun began, choosing what we wanted to do for our final piece, Alison was advising and helping. We spent a very productive and busy afternoon with a varied choice of colours and techniques being used, alas the day had flown by and our time was up. Be ready to be amazed and stunned when these items go on show at the mini exhibition in November. We would all like to take this to another level, there is so much more to experience and learn in this field. Alison does run courses from her shop (Smartfrog) in Broadstairs, Kent. I think that plans are all ready being thought about by some of the participants to make a visit.
