2016 August Meeting

August Meeting - by Debbie

After the usual menagerie of notices we started getting stuck into the tombola makes. We rotated throughout the evening, so that we could watch all four demonstrations.

Eileen showed us how to make a rather nifty pull together bag, suitable for small gifts and knickknacks. As it doesn't take much fabric, it's a great way to use up some scraps, which I think we all collect. Personally, I can't bear to throw anything away!

Julia demonstrated how to make mug rugs, showing how versatile you can make them, whether your preference is blocking, stitchery or applique. There was something that would appeal to all. Beware, from experience, I can tell you that mug rug making can get very addictive.

Chris created a lovely scissor keeper, which looked more complicated than it proved to be, as long as you keep closely to the instructions!!

Finally Jill showed us how to make a gift box that can be made in variable sizes and depths – it’s a brilliant way to present a gift.

All the items demonstrated were straightforward to make and only needed small amounts of fabric and items to embellish and therefore inexpensive. I can’t wait to get started!!

I think it was an evening that we all enjoyed – many thanks to Eileen, Julia, Chris and Jill.
