2017 Barbara Laine

Barbara Laine Exhibition - by Jackie S

I went to a small, personal exhibition by Barbara Laine from Dulwich Quilters at the Sprout Arts Gallery in Streatham on 16 February. The address is 74 Moyser Road, Streatham SW16 6SQ and it is an ex-greengrocers' shop - hence the name Sprout Arts, on the corner of Moyser and Ribblesdale Roads. The exhibition ends on Sunday 19 February and is open 11.00 am to 5.00 pm Friday and Saturday, and 11.00 am to 3.00 pm on Sunday. Sprout Arts does have a website with travel directions.

Some of you may know Barbara - she is a prolific quilter and is a long-term member of Dulwich Quilters. Every couple of years she has an exhibition at Sprouts, which is very local to where she lives.

This year's exhibition is very colourful and eclectic. Barbara is a big fan of Katherine Guerrier and several of the quilts here are based on her designs. There are hand-made cards for sale and smaller items such as bags and pouches, as well as the majority of the quilts on display. I enjoyed the exhibition very much as Barbara always makes "doable", simple quilts of the sort that make you want to go home and get stuck in straight away! Barbara is also a great Linus quilt maker and her group donates their quilts to King's College Hospital.

If you can manage a visit I think you will enjoy it; Barbara is in the shop all the time so please mention how you knew about the exhibition
