This was an open meeting so we were joined by some non-members. We were back in the large hall after several months in the Sanctuary of Shirley Methodist Church; a pity in some ways as the chairs in the large hall aren’t nearly as comfortable as those in the Sanctuary!
Because it was being an open meeting with a speaker our Chairman, Julia, had circulated most of the notices before the meeting. So it was straight into the talk. Izzy from Creative Quilting had come to show us some of the latest quilting accessories and gadgets. I was particularly interested in some wadding called Dream Green which is made from re-cycled bottles! It had a lovely smooth feel to it and Izzy assured us that it was suitable for both machine and hand quilting. The only downside seemed to be that it is pale green in colour, but that would only be a problem if there was a significant quantity of white fabric in the quilt top. After the talk refreshments were served and we were able to buy items which we particularly liked. There was also an opportunity to look at the amazing variety of beautiful fabrics which Izzy had brought with her. Looking around, many members and guests seemed to have come prepared to spend, spend, spend – Izzy even took credit cards!
Finally the raffle was drawn and it was time to help put the chairs away before going home.
Altogether a most interesting meeting which I for one really enjoyed.
