It was a damp evening but that did not stop a large number of people turning out to support Shirley Quilters’ mini exhibition.

An open meeting meant that lots of lovely guests were able to come and view the various pieces of work that the group had produced over the last year.

The group had been set various challenges over the course of the year, and these challenge items were on view along with works that had been produced as a result of various workshops.

The Log Cabin Challenge was to make a quilt no bigger than 20" x 20". Everyone was given a piece of the same fabric and people were told to use as little or as much of that fabric as wanted. The results were wonderful - very varied, with so many variations of the log cabin design. It was very difficult to pick out a favourite piece but personally I did rather like the Christmas tree design by Liz, with presents wrapped in the challenge material!

There were Table Toppers and Tissue Box Covers created at the Gail Penberthy workshops, all looking very professional and colourful.

A sales table was open with a multitude of quilted, sewn and knitted items - lots of choice for nice Christmas gifts.

On the stage was a vast array of Linus quilts - lots made from Hexagon flowers which we worked on as a group at the February meeting, made into small premature baby Linus quilts, others made from the blocks set in the January block challenge. There was also a large number that had been made from “fabric packs” these had been prepared by the committee for members to sew into yet more quilts.

There were refreshments available throughout the evening with a delicious choice of cakes available.

The raffle was a great success, raising £155.00 which was presented to Liz from Project Linus at the end of the evening.

All in all it was a very enjoyable, sociable evening.
