2017 October Meeting

It was a busy meeting. It started with the collection of members’ work which will be on show at the mini-exhibition which is being held next month. As well as exhibits, members were handing in quilts for Project Linus that had been handed out as kits over the last few months, these will also be on display.
The main theme of the evening was the Christmas make. We were making a hanging pyramid, either for a tree decoration or to use for a small gift, if members were feeling extremely clever, they could make enough for an Advent Calendar but I am not sure anyone was going to attempt this! The group was divided around four tables, and each committee member demonstrated the same item. The members were busy chatting and making templates and then sewing, hopefully everyone had time to make a quarter of the finished project, four triangles needed to be made for each project and finished at home.
After refreshments it was back to more sewing and time for Show and Tell.
Each October Shirley Quilters support “Wear It Pink” for breast cancer. We ask our members to wear something pink and to make a contribution, if they wish. We collected £80 – well done ladies – this has been forwarded on to the charity.
As well as another excellent collection of quilts for Project Linus, members have been busy knitting for premature babies and there were donations of 60 little hats, 40 cardigan and hat sets and ten octopus, apparently these are used in the incubators for tiny fingers to touch, in the hope the tiny fingers will leave the tubes alone.
We said goodbye to one of our youngest members who is moving back to Devon to help her father on his dairy farm. We wish her all the best and hope she still has time for some quilting, taking into account the hours that farmers work.
