2018 Disappearing Blocks

Disappearing Blocks - by Bernadette

After Claire informed us of all the upcoming events it was time to press on but not before entry forms were handed in to Betty for our upcoming exhibition on 6 October

Four tables were set up and four members – Eileen, Claire, Jan and Anne were kind enough to talk us through their take on disappearing blocks!

At my group’s table, Claire talked us through both the traditional disappearing nine patch block and what can happen if you then make cuts on the diagonal – such an array of possibilities. As we moved to the next table we were shown by Jan what can be achieved from a simple Broken Dishes block – our group was most impressed with this block – so many variations and we all agreed it is very effective with just two contrasting fabrics. After a short interval for refreshments it was back to business!

Anne showed us her samples and talked us through the nine patch shuffle. Once again a variation on disappearing nine patch but very effective.

Finally to Eileen’s table and this time it was the disappearing four patch block that Eileen demonstrated. She also had some finished quilts – very simple but very effective. This was a very popular block with my group.

The demonstrations were a great success. I’m sure we were all thinking that we could make a small dent in our stashes of fabric with any one of the great ideas shown to us this evening. Thank you to Eileen, Claire, Jane and Anne for taking the time to prepare everything for the demos.

A reminder from Claire that there is a sewing day in September for anyone wishing to complete entries for the Exhibition – if you haven’t booked you can just turn up and pay Claire on the day!

Happy sewing everyone!
