Knit and Stitch Show at Alexandra Palace - by Anne L
Although I have been to other Knitting and Stitching shows, it was my first one at Alexandra Palace, and I was impressed. I was quite a warm but windy day, so was very glad of the Courtesy Bus which took us from the station to the venue, otherwise I don’t think I would have made it by foot up those hills…
The first stand to take my eye was highlighting Dementia and its effects. I found it very moving as it portayed pictures of a lady from when she was young and healthy to her final journey with dementia. Very powerful.
The small hall catered for knitting and sewing with lots of wools, threads and fabrics available. We were spoilt for choice.
We noticed many schoolchildren at the show who were on a daytrip as part of their lessons and were all sewers (both boys and girls). They were thoroughly enjoying themselves.
I have to say that there were some really good bargains available in the Large Hall, including ‘buy one get one free’ when you bought quilting fabric. Needless to say I took full advantage of this.
We met some talented ladies from the Netherlands who had embroidered leather shopping trollies (including a seat attached) and matching parasol, They have a shop on Facebook which shows their products. The trollies were about £400 but were magnificent. We were even given a gift of an embroidered face-flannel.
There were a variety of stalls, including some selling leather items, and of course the large sewing machine traders, Juki, Janome and Bernina were in attendance. I also saw the Long-Arm Quilting machines, but can only dream.
We also met the ladies from Puddleducks at their stall. They no longer have their shop in Sevenoaks or carry out courses – all their selling is now on- line.
The food from the restaurant was good and helped sustain us during an enjoyable day.
