2018 Saturday Sewing Day

Saturday Sewing Day - by Claire

So another productive sewing day at SQ lay ahead of us we hoped, I wonder if we'll get everything done that we plan to.

We didn't all have our machines with us and those that didn't focused our attention on hand sewing. Jackie S was concentrating on her binding for the Block Of the Month project for the exhibition, Betty was working on her 10 year project, a stunning English paper piecing hexagon quilt and I was stitching my binding on for one my exhibition quilts and also helping layer various quilts with Nicola and Lisa, the odd tea run too.

Those on machines seemed to never stop, I'm not saying that those hand stitching were idle but you couldn't tell how productive we were based on the noise of the machines.

Lisa was working on a huge Star Wars quilt for her son Robert who she had promised it would be finished for that night. Anne L was working her way through a bundle of disappearing 9 patches which she had demonstrated at our August meeting and making them up for Project Linus quilts. Nicola was beavering away on her Block of the Month quilt which had to be layered and quilted, she also had another 2 quilts that needed to be layered. This was a lot more difficult in the hall as we missed our carpets, the quilts kept moving on the slippery surface of the stage, but we prevailed. Nicola's mum joined us as a visitor for the day, she was working on the binding for a quilt for her son in Australia and Karen joined us in the afternoon and layered up a small foundation pieced project by Gail Penberthy and started quilting it.

We had numerous cups of tea though-out the day to keep us going and of course we did stop for lunch, but only for a short time.

Overall,  I think we all completed the tasks in hand, I do think that Betty is still working on her 10 year project, after all she is only 8 years into it. It was such a lovely relaxing day and reminded me why I love quilting.
