On our way to a soggy but wonderful three-day music festival we had to stop for roadworks in a small village in South Northants. Through the trees we caught sight of a sign saying “quilting” and discovered the cornucopia that is the Bramble Patch.
Set in a converted chapel, Bramble Patch is a large sprawling store with enticing displays around every corner. Half way up the stairs is an alcove of Lucy Boston kits; haberdashery is located by the sewing machines; there’s a whole wall of solids; fabric is enticingly displayed everywhere you look; long-arm quilting is open to view and there appear to be at least two classrooms.
The main church is an exhibition area currently displaying work by Mary Mayne for a £2 donation to the Alzheimer’s Society – there are photos of some of her exhibits below.
The cherry on the cake, literally, is the small coffee shop serving salads, sandwiches and beautiful home-made cakes – a perfect venue for someone without a burning desire to touch, look at and buy fabric (e.g. my husband) to sit and read!
There’s ample free parking and Weedon Bec is a pretty village on an elevated section of the Grand Union Canal – definitely worth a visit.
