The quilts were displayed in the main area of the building and were many and varied. Unfortunately, due to the size of the room and number of visitors, it was difficult to get a good view of some. Many had been made at workshops or were group projects. I have noticed recently, a lot more quilters are having their quilts long arm quilted and personally I see nothing wrong with that, I think a lot of us struggle with “how to or what to quilt”.
It is always fascinating to see how one design can look so different with the fabrics chosen. Several members had joined in with the block of the month quilt “Round the Garden”, quite literally, this quilt was circular and involved using some felt and lots of appliqué. Several members had made quilts based on the New York Beauty block, they were stunning.
There were two traders, Little Shop of Fabrics from Headcorn and Daisy Chain Designs, they both appeared to be doing a brisk trade. I couldn’t even get near enough the former to look properly and for the first time I can remember, I did not make a purchase – probably something to do with the heat.
The cost of the entrance, included a cup of tea or coffee and a piece of lovely homemade cake and that was a difficult choice as the selection was vast.
This is a biennial exhibition and I would certainly try to visit again. I now know where the village hall is and maybe next time I might try the afternoon, it may be a bit quieter and therefore, easier to view the quilts.
