The exhibition was in Christ Church Hall, just off the High Road and about five minutes' walk from Wanstead Tube Station. When I arrived the hall was very busy and, as always I came across fellow quilters who I hadn't seen for a long time. After all the catching up was done I decided to look at the many, colourful quilts and displays!
There were about 50 largish quilts hanging, of varying styles and methods, and two smaller groups of challenge quilts - an earlier challenge with the theme of bees, and a Ruby Challenge for the anniversary. Marsh Quilters make Linus quilts for the East London area and there were many on display - all the proceeds of the exhibition were going to Linus.
There was also a sit and sew table, which was very popular with visitors, hand sewing small strip scraps of fabric about 3/4" wide onto pieces of 3 1/2" square wadding to be sewn into a quilt with sashing in between. One for us?
There wasn't a visitor's choice vote but two of my favourites were Square Dance by Barbara Stew - a Lintott Jelly Roll pattern that was very colourful, and Square Dance by Marion Bradley - a very simple square in square design in white, yellowy green, grey and dull turquoise, but very effective.
After trawling the traders - Changs, The African Fabric Shop, Janice Gunner (and supporting all), plus entering the Chinese auction for a cushion, which I didn't win - it was time for refreshments with a fabulous choice of cakes - taken in the lovely garden attached to the church hall.
All-in-all a lovely day in a lovely place with lovely quilts.
