2019 Midsomer Quilting

Midsomer Quilting - by Eileen

Wow! What a lovely sight met my eyes when I went into The Hayloft at Manor Farm, Chilcompton, Somerset, where Midsomer Quilting is situated.

A stunning array of fabrics, books – and more – displayed in a large and bright room. It was difficult to know where to start there was so much choice. The fabric was laid out in categories, (I think that is the best way to describe it), novelty, Christmas, Japanese, Liberty, William Morris, Batiks and the list goes on! As well of course as all the colourways. Great election of Jelly Rolls, Bali pops and more.

I’m already thinking about the fabrics I want to purchase on my next visit for a quilt I have in mind to make – all being well it will be on display at the Shirley Quilters’ exhibition in October 2020.

Dee, the owner of the shop was very welcoming and almost her first words were “would you like a cup of tea?”, we did as the journey had been just over the hour from where we were staying in Dorset. Yvonne, a member of Dee’s team, was busy in another room using the Gammill long arm quilting machine, which was busy working its wonders on a quilt. The shelves in that room had many quilts waiting to be quilted as well as those awaiting collection.

Workshops are held regularly as well as drop in sit and sew sessions.

Nothing forgotten in this “Quilters’ Paradise”, they have an area all ready for the men, who can sit and relax with coffee and biscuits while their wives shop and shop and shop!

Midsomer Quilting is a little hidden away, but if you are visiting the area it is certainly worth finding. The shop is open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. – and by arrangement, they also welcome group visits on other days. The shop is situated mid-way between Bath and Wells, BA3 4HP www.MidsomerQ.com

There is also a cafe located at Manor Farm called The Holy Cow – if you need a light bite.
