2019 Mini Exhibition

Mini Exhibition - by Helen D

The day of the Mini Exhibition dawned with a very heavy frost so it was fingers crossed that we would have a good turnout in the evening. We shouldn’t have worried as the hall was packed with members and visitors which kept it lovely and toasty warm!

The main exhibits focused on the two challenges of 2019 - the Paint Chip and the Orphan Blocks. The Quilts in the Paint Chip challenge were creative, varied and true to the colours members had been given. And the Orphan Blocks were almost unrecognisable as they were incorporated into the many bags of all shapes and sizes that were on display.

Also on show were some of the Mug Rugs made at one of our monthly meetings and some examples of the Octagon Workshop run by Linda Mercer - all stunning.

A large section of the hall was taken up by the Linus Quilts and Knits made by members as well as some of the bags for the Marsden. Liz from Linus was delighted with the quilts all of which will be delivered before Christmas. She also ensured we read a sample of the heartwarming letters she receives from grateful parents and children to remind us of how our donations and hard work are appreciated.

The Sales Table seemed to be doing a roaring trade in lovely home made gifts as did the Raffle which had some super prizes.

No quilt event passes without mention of tea and cake so a big thank you to the bakers and servers.

So a great evening and a lovely opportunity to have a group “show & tell” but Claire’s parting words of “ bring an ugly fat quarter to the December meeting” struck fear in our hearts as she obviously has a new challenge in mind for 2020.

A last thank you to all our fantastic Committee members who do such much behind the scenes to make events like last night such a success- thank you!!
