Saturday Sewing Day - by Eileen
On Saturday 21st September, a small group of Shirley Quilters met at the regular venue for a sewing day. The date had been booked, primarily, for members to be able come along and finish off their items for the mini exhibition.
However, we did have a lovely relaxing day. Some members were indeed finishing their Paint Chip Challenges. There was also work being done on the preparation required prior to the October meeting for the Christmas make. One member was sitting hand quilting a fairly large quilt which she had apparently made by hand, we look forward to seeing this on display at the main exhibition next October.
St Helier Hospital have put in a special request for small quilts with kangaroo fabric, this is for an event which will be held in May 2020. Two members spent the morning sorting the kangaroo fabric, which had been given by St Helier, not terribly suitable for babies it was felt, but the border fabrics chosen may go some way to making them more baby friendly, well that is the hope! These quilts will be as part of Project Linus.
Whilst Shirley Quilters were busy in one hall, a local group of lace makers were holding a gathering in another and we could hear lots of laughter and chatter. Several of their members came through to talk and see what we were doing. One of their members had been a member of the quilt group some time ago, she had been busy working on a quilt that she wanted to donate to Project Linus, it was given to Claire, who kindly finished off the binding, thank you to both. See quilt below.
The time just flew, I think we all achieved what we wanted and it was home time all too quickly.
