It didn’t rain!! The drive was pleasant on a lovely spring morning, arriving a few minutes before 10 o’clock when the show was due to open. The husbands went off for a day looking around the Duxford Air Museum and we went the other way to enjoy the Show.
This was my first visit to the Show at this venue and I was pleasantly surprised. There is far more room than at Ardingly, West Sussex and there were also more traders, some of whom used to attend the show in Sussex but no longer do so.
We mixed the browsing of quilts and traders. First stop – The Kilted Quilter, as our Chair – Claire – was busy helping her Dad for the weekend and we wanted to say hello. She pointed me in the direction of traders where I would be able to purchase my requirements for the jelly roll bag that I will be making at the Shirley Quilters’ workshop at the end of March – the first tick off my list. I was also looking to purchase some fabrics to make a quilt for my husband, these had to be very precise, he is an old, or should I say retired sailor, so a quilt with a nautical theme. Fabrics purchased, all I have to do is get it completed for the exhibition on 3rd October.
Although not a huge selection of quilts and some I had seen earlier in the year, there were some beautiful pieces on show. Some made entirely by hand and they were of a big size, I wish I knew where that time came from?
For a light bite we went out of the actual show into one of the Museum cafes, it was actually nice to walk in the fresh air for a few minutes. There was plenty of seating around the café area in the show itself but it was very busy, I think some people just sitting for a rest.
After a little more retail therapy, when I finally managed to get my requirements for the “Shirley Quilters 20 Challenge”, so something else to work on. We then made our way back to the car and phoned the husbands – we were finished before them – can you believe it?
