2020 October Meeting

Zoom First - by Grace

On Tuesday 20th October, 28 members gathered for our first virtual meeting – complete with an array of backgrounds including lovely workrooms, colourful quilts and splendid curtains – as one member commented ‘this is my happy place’. We were welcomed by Kate E who put together and shared a powerpoint presentation of work by members for our 2020 challenges including our 20 challenge, ugly fabric makes and a colourful array of boat blocks – this really got us enthused, and after a warm welcome by Claire our Chair [who actually sewed during the meeting] we shared all the things we had been doing during our months apart. It was clear that Eileen’s Monday bulletins with the block challenges have been a lifeline for many of us and we took the chance to say a big thank you to her.

For some it was the first Zoom meeting and everything really went smoothly - congratulations.

It was so touching to hear of the way our quilting gets us through the tough things life throws our way, and inspiring to hear of members' other achievements during these strange months, including substantial gardening, many projects for others – one person has written and published a book! It was only an hour but so rich with inspiration and ideas – thanks to everyone to came and enjoyed being together in a new way.

SO – please do join us for our November meeting – details to follow – and do let Eileen have your hints and tips, recommendations and suggestions for her Monday missive – for example we learned which quilt shops are now open locally. We also really welcome your suggestions for presentations and speakers.

Claire closed the meeting and assured us we have paid part of our hall hire to secure our slot at the Hall – for when we will meet again! And meanwhile the 2021 Challenges are already planned – so if like me you still have your 2020 challenge to do look at the website and be inspired!

NB – Susan W really needs a Makower Lava fabric in a warm yellow – does anyone have any of this fabric please?
