2021 April Meeting

April Meeting - Cathy

There were 34 participants who joined the meeting where we had a marvellous "Show and Tell” of fabrics and panels by the Kilted Quilter – Claire’s Dad!

They displayed beautiful panels, lots of animals, particularly cat panels – lovely designs with Claire as the glamorous assistant displaying the fabrics whilst her dad talked about it.

There were also lots of suggestions for fabric to use for the Cluedo challenge particularly if you have the kitchen!!

Favourites of mine included: Lots of bee fabrics – eight different fat quarters in various colours. Mum and baby penguin panel is very cute.

Christmas fabrics are now available. The stockings panel is three large and two small, they do need own backing added as the stockings are not reversible.

Advent calendars now available, some are sew on pockets, some are fold up. There is a new one available in June, The London Skyline including St Pauls and Big Ben. Fold up – you just fold, pin and stitch to form pockets.

Finished with Welcome to the Roost, which is two chicken panels, specifically for Shirley Quilters

No obligation to buy, £5 postage and packaging will be added regardless of the size of the order. Claire will send out an email with all details including contact details.

Show and Tell: Anne L – Christmas stockings plus three Christmas quilts, made for the St Helier Christmas Project. Jill – baby quilt for a relative, animals on front and jungle on the back. Erica – finished quilt blocks from last set of blocks, she loved doing it and the quilt looks beautiful!

Next month the speaker will be Pauline Macaulay who is the mother in law of Gordon Brown! “I thought I was the only one – the 1970s quilt revival.” This meeting will be held via Zoom.

Gillian Travis, would anyone like to take part in workshops with her? Grace and Kate have completed workshops on Zoom with her. Do we have any interest? Let us know next meeting.  Grace and Kate have both done Indian ladies workshop, this was very engaging and relatively easy. Applique. Also did jumpers applique into felt. Grace says she is an amazing teacher – she talks for about 90 mins then work on your quilt for a while with her on call. Interchange applique – course Grace thinks would be good for us to do – have a look on her website - link will be sent out by email – looks really effective. Courses generally 10-4pm.

July meeting. Gail Lawther will be giving a talk via Zoom entitled “Glimpses of New Zealand”. Anne L showed a Maori sample she had completed previously.

A really enjoyable meeting, with lots of interest in the lovely fabrics. Many thanks to Claire and her dad for taking the time to show us their beautiful fabrics.
