2021 Lisa Walton

Lisa Walton - by Joyce

I recently took part in a Zoom meeting of Region 1 (London) of the Quilters' Guild when Lisa Walton gave us a very inspiring talk. She is Australian and started quilting when a neighbour showed her how to make a cot quilt. From that moment she was hooked (sounds familiar?).

She soon moved on to less traditional quilts and became interested in dyeing her own fabrics. She attended several workshops on dyeing and soon realised that there was a market for the fabrics she produced and so her company “Dyed and gone to Heaven” was born. Her husband started to get involved and eventually took over the dyeing process, well she said he was better at it than she was” too slapdash “!

She has won many awards for her quilts and has taught workshops all over the world and attended many Quilt Shows including the Festival of Quilts at the NEC.

She had several planned for last year but of course the pandemic put paid to those.

Always enterprising she took the opportunity to put workshops online “on demand “and has made videos “Quilt Stories” about textile artists.

I can’t put any examples on here but if you google her you will be able to see the beautiful work she has done and the workshops available. Aren’t we lucky to have such a wonderful resource at our fingertips!
