2022 Little Shop of Fabrics

Little Shop of Fabrics - by Gill

A trip out to the Little Shop of Fabrics in Smarden, Kent is an essential for anyone who has a passion for fabrics and sewing as well as knitting, crochet and cross stitch.  It is quite a drive but well worth it.

The shop is situated in beautiful countryside with plenty of easy parking. When entering the shop and after receiving a very warm welcome, it is difficult to decide where to start! Of course we started with the essentials and had a lovely cup of coffee and biscuits. Currently the refreshments are made in the shop with seating in a covered area adjacent to the shop but there are plans to provide a cafe in the near future.

The shop is an Aladdin's Cave of beautiful, colourful and varied fabrics displayed in a well organised and thoughtful way. The fabrics are arranged to inspire and support when selecting materials that complement each other for your chosen project. There are a wide range of quilting fabrics from the more traditional to very modern and bright designs, all available to purchase from the bolt in any quantity, in addition to a selection of Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, Honey Buns and Layer Cakes. The Halloween fabrics were just being arranged for display and there was already a range of beautiful Christmas fabrics. In addition to the fabrics and wools, there is all the haberdashery you could need and a good selection of relevant books.

The whole time spent at the Little Shop of Fabrics was very enjoyable. There was plenty of room to explore the merchandise and in the relaxed atmosphere time just disappeared. The only problem is how to stop yourself from buying far more than you need!!
