Louisa Lawson Workshop – by Jill
12th March 2022
Our first class for over two years, All About Appliqué with Louisa Lawson.
Louisa showed us a selection of her wonderful quilts, all of which lived on her bed. She explained that she did not like needle turn appliqué or the use of bondaweb.
She demonstrated how she worked with water soluble supplies and appliqué tools.
We were given two sheets of designs and a sheet of Stitch & Wash by Floriana. We then made some flowers and leaves with the stitch & wash, a sewline glue pen and using a light box.
Louisa gave us tips on fabric, needles, threads, scissors and quilt tours. She also recommended Roxanne glue and 505 spray glue which she uses to sandwich her quilts on an ironing board.
We ended the day with ideas on how to lay out our appliqué pieces on our background fabric and methods of stitching by hand or machine and embellishment with perle thread.
Louisa was an enthusiastic tutor and we had an easy going thoroughly enjoyable day.
