2022 September Meeting

September Meeting - by Ann D

I have to admit that I was very much intrigued as to how this evening’s meeting would go, as this was my first ever attendance at a meeting whose focus was the preparation for our upcoming Exhibition on 8th October. It was an impressive hive of industry by the hard working and very knowledgeable committee members! They’ve done this before!!

The meeting began with a warm welcome from the chair, Claire, followed by notices;

• The Jelly Roll course deferred from 2020 is being run on Saturday 28th January 2023 in the hall. There is now one space on this course if anyone is interested in doing the workshop.

• Thank you to all those who have completed the Linus quilts which will be collected this evening for the exhibition.

• Sanderstead Village WI are holding a coffee morning on 29th September if anyone would like to pop in.

• The Marsh Quilters exhibition of their work is being held from 11am – 4pm on 15th October in Christchurch Hall, London, E11 2SW

• We were told that we would be called up to the tables in alphabetical order to hand in the pieces of work that we were presenting at the exhibition. The items would be sorted into the various categories and taken home by committee members for safe keeping prior to being put up on Friday 7th October.

• Signing up sheets were also available on the table for folk to volunteer for various activities on the day of the exhibition.

• A sales table with lovely fabrics were laid out along with books for sale, as well as the SQ borrowing library.

• New stands and poles were being assembled throughout the evening in readiness for the exhibition.

The hall was “buzzing” with activities and many lovely projects were being sewn and completed. It was good to catch up with each other, and by the end of the evening an amazing collection of bags, bursting at the seams, were laid out on the stage containing the many wonderful members’ contributions for this year’s exhibition.

One last treat was a show and tell of Jean Cockerell’s first ever stitch and sew quilt made over 30 years ago …. It was stunning! what a wonderful piece of work and so obviously very precious.

Many thanks to all those members last night for a very busy and enjoyable evening, and to all the dedicated committee members for all your help, guidance and hard work! Can’t wait for the exhibition!!
