2022 Shirley Methodist Church

By Anne L

On Saturday 28th May,2022, SHIRLEY METHODIST CHURCH were organizing an Open Day to celebrate the PLATINUM JUBILEE of QUEEN ELIZABETH the second. The Church Committee sent invites to all the Groups who use the Church asking us take part in the celebrations and run stalls etc. to show the work we all do.

A group of 6 Shirley Quilter members volunteered to assist. We started setting up our stall from 12 noon, including the Quilt stands to display five large quilts. We also covered out tables with smaller makes/items from Challenges over the last few years and ongoing work yet to be shown at our meetings (seems a long time since we had a 'Show-and-Tell')

Other Groups also displayed their work, including Lace Makers, Photography, Soft Toys and Knitting Group to name a few. We were entertained by a group of Shanty Singers, Choirs and other Musicians. There were other stalls selling a variety of items including bric-a-brac, plants, and books. Children were also entertained with face-painting and a Nature Trail.

The Shirley Quilters stand was a great success with many people showing interest in our display and asking very relevant questions about the group.....we even had 7 people thinking about joining who added their names to our Waiting List. Many took details of our upcoming Exhibition, so hopefully will attend in October.

The Open Day was very well organised by Church Members and was very busy for the hours it was open.

An enjoyable and proactive day, but very tired at the end.
