Great Northern Quilt Show - by Helen D
A big adventure up North!
What a lovely few days - quilts, fabric shops, great history, architecture, food and people.
As an alternative to the NEC this year we decided to try the Great Northern Quilt Show in Harrogate and what a joy it was. Although it was staged by Grosvenor and followed their well trod format it just felt so different - fantastic venue, local traders, interesting quilt displays, great ambiance and endless seating areas for tired legs! Needless to say that resulted in a few purchases to add to the stash all of which were delivered to our B&B by the traders to save us carrying them - oh bless what service!
Harrogate was a revelation with beautiful Georgian architecture, open spaces, fantastic restaurants and a great fabric shop which we just had to offer our support, so yes, even more fabric. By extending our stay we even had time to spend a day refreshing our memories of York with its engaging history together with a throng of very sharp elbowed tourists before heading home with heavy hearts.
If you get a chance try the Quilt Shows beyond the southern counties for a different experience and an excuse for a wee holiday i am sure you will have a wonderful time.
