2023 January Meeting

January Meeting – by Jane M

Our first meeting of 2023, Challenge launch day!

Claire opened the meeting by wishing us all a happy new year and welcoming new member, Kate. The notices were read for shows and exhibitions to enthral, inspire and maybe bankrupt us!

Claire explained what Project Linus is and how the group supports it and asked members to take some packs to make up quilts. New members must have been delighted that a series of meetings and workshops called Back to Basics will help with skills and details (we can all benefit from learning new methods)!

The Big Reveal - no drum roll!!

We each had to pick a playing card which will be the inspiration for a piece of work to measure no more than 24” square.

To make 4 blocks from what seemed hundreds of 2 1/2” squares to make into Linus quilts in May.

To make a block of the month each month incorporating our Christmas gift of a fat 1/8th in a quilt for our mini exhibition in November.

We picked our cards one by one with our packs of fabric and returned to our tables, suggestions and discussions coming from all directions. The ideas continued with Deidre showing us how to use a colour wheel over our tea and biscuits.

Claire wrapped up the meeting early after a show and tell session so we could hurry home through the frost covered streets, dreaming of what we will create in 2023!

Good luck everyone, enjoy!
