2023 Mini Exhibition

Mini Exhibition – by Anne L

We call it a "mini-exhibition", but the amount of exhibits and work undertaken is phenomenal.

Members were given a playing card and had to incorporate/interpret that card into a mini quilt, cushion or other object. The results were creative and colourful - members are so inventive - it was a great display showing their innovative thinking and hard work.

The main display comprised of quilts made from a monthly block which we were given to interpret in our own colour scheme. It never fails to amaze me how using the same blocks but selecting very different colours and fabrics create such a special quilt. An impressive display.

Exhibits were also on show from a Kate Findlay Workshop depicting Bluebell and Woodland scenes. The work and colouring were spectacular and reflected how much members enjoyed the Workshop.

Another display was from the Jelly Roll Workshop consisting of bags and mats....this involved cording the fabric and liner and joining in a circular/oval structure....again, beautiful colours and all very well sewn. These projects involved a lot of work, so no surprise when makers' comments of "never again" were prominent.

As usual the Xmas Sales Table was available displaying Wreaths, Fabric Xmas trees, Baubles, Mini Quilts and many other items for Christmas Stockings. All items were beautifully made and useful.

As Shirley Quilters supports the Linus Project Charity, there is always a large display of quilts made for children in Hospital.  This years' display also included Bonding Squares, Levi Lovies (a small knitted cuddle square with an animal head at one corner), mini Xmas Stockings and Quilts for Premature babies born during the festive season.

This Charity supports the Evalina Childrens' Hospital, St. Helier and Epsom Baby Units and many other deserving projects working with children who are unwell or haven't had such a good start in life.

Thanks to all the Committee and members who organised and set up the Exhibition - an evening well spent.
