2023 Offbeat Sari

The Offbeat Sari, the Design Museum , High St. Kensington - by Joyce

Jane K. and I went to this gorgeous exhibition on Monday. Lots of colour and beautiful fabrics, we all love that don’t we?

There were fabrics woven from steel, apart from the more traditional silk, which draped beautifully and all had been stitched, knotted or pleated in multiple colours and shapes.

Worn in celebration, sports, protest (the Pink movement), all were stunning and we could get up close to them but resisted the temptation to touch!

There were videos running to show how to wear them , some looked very complicated and they need so much fabric.

Wooden blocks used to print the fabric were on display too.

It was a real feast for the eyes and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We went via High St.Kensington tube station. On the Circle Line from Victoria and had lunch in Gail’s, just alongside the museum.Holland Park is just behind if you want a walk too.

We had previously been to Japan House, the other side of the station, to see the Kumihimo exhibition, Japanese Silk Braiding, fascinating. Not too large so both can be done in a day.
