The Bramble Patch Christmas Exhibition - by Jackie S
On a cold, wet, miserable Friday 13 December morning I made the hour-long journey by bus from the centre of Northampton to Weedon Bec, to visit The Bramble Patch quilt shop’s Christmas exhibition. The exhibition was in aid of Parkinson’s disease and consisted mainly of quilts, cushions, table runners, etc made by quilters who had attended workshops held by the shop during the year. There was also a display of embroidery work made by a local group, which was very well done.
After a long bus ride, I entered the shop to be met by a fantastic display of colourful quilts. The one that caught my eye first was by Kathy L - it consisted of lots of blocks of two-coloured hearts in bright fabric on lighter coloured backgrounds - and it was made to celebrate the maker’s 50th wedding anniversary to her husband Dave. I voted for this as my favourite.
Spoilt for choice to vote for second place I decided on Freda H's diamonds quilt, the diamonds being made up of different quilt patterns, with a white background that really set off the layout and diamonds. And, for third I picked a quilt by Fiona R, which was beautifully made and very different from the other quilts on display. The choice of fabrics and colours perfectly suited the blocks and patterns.
There were about 60 pieces of work in the exhibition, all showing the makers’ skills to good effect, and overall made a very colourful and interesting display.
After a quick look around the very well stocked shop and, only purchasing 3 fat quarters from the sale box, I made the return journey with ideas for more quilts in my head. If you happen to be in the area I recommend a visit to The Bramble Patch.
Note: Jackie is a member of Shirley Quilters who now lives in the Northampton area, she remains a very active member of the group.
