2024 Dulwich Quilters' Exhibition

Dulwich Quilters' Exhibition 2024 - by Sarah

On a glorious late Summer’s afternoon, I visited the beautiful building that is the Bell House in Dulwich, to view the Dulwich Quilters Exhibition 2024. As was to be expected, it featured a wonderful array of beautifully made quilts in many assorted colours and sizes, both individual and group efforts.

Amongst the highlights was the quilt selected for the raffle in aid of Medicins Sans Frontiers. It had been made as part of the Group Quilt Challenge 2023 for which the theme was ‘Monarchy’. However, rather than produce a quilt reflecting Royal events such as King Charles’s then recent coronation, the group had chosen a different theme focussing on monarch butterflies. Their finished work was impressive, with colours ranging from the dark green of a forest floor to the blue sunlit canopy above and featuring beautiful butterflies throughout. The winner was a truly lucky person!

In another challenge, quilters had taken ‘Board’ or ‘Bored’ games as their starting point producing work which reflected either fondly remembered childhood games or those used to while away the odd hour here and there. The results were wonderfully imaginative and many of those visiting the exhibition spent some time happily trying them out.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition, the experience was topped off with a cup of tea and a delicious piece of cake and a stroll round the delightful garden.

Definitely an exhibition not to be missed!
