February Meeting - by Jane K
We were all looking forward to this evening to help us with the “initial challenge “for this year which would be using a disappearing block design. This evening Deirdre, Kate, Chrissie and Jenny would be demonstrating different ideas to help us with this challenge.
Before we got started we had the notices from Kate, elaborating on her very helpful email about local events and a reminder about the Wensleydale block. We had a lovely show and tell from all the participants from the February bag making workshop. They are all very good at inserting zips now and we were all very impressed and envious. We then had a talk about the Linus project who want our help to make 100 Christmas stockings by the summer. We were all asked to take a pattern and make up one or more. They also want knitted bears and bonding squares.
Then it was time for” musical tables” as we got into 4 groups, moving tables roughly every 20 minutes or so to learn about disappearing blocks.
Kate showed ideas for disappearing 4 patch and a half square triangle design called Bottle Opener. Deidre showed us a 6 or 12 stripes block which were cut up and rearranged and a 9 patch Hourglass pinwheel. Jenny demonstrated disappearing 9 patch, diagonal, heart and double disappearing. Chrissie showed us a disappearing pinwheel and how to keep the pattern the correct way up in a 9 patch.
We all had time for a welcome tea or coffee break and chats sometime in the evening and came away with lots of ideas, enthusiastic to get started on our challenge. A very enjoyable evening.
