September meeting – by Eileen
It was a lovely warm late summer evening when we gathered for the September meeting.
This was the last meeting prior to the Exhibition on 28th September and there was a lot to cover.
Tables were ready to accept quilts. Bags were labelled according to category, ready for the quilts to be placed in. Deirdre and Chrissie called members and marked off the list when the said quilt was handed over. It was I think, safe to say, orderly chaos. Everything progressed smoothly and by the end of the meeting there were a large collection of bags full of quilts ready for the Exhibition.
Lots of members had hand sewing to keep busy and there was a general air of informal chit chat around the hall. The evening proved the ideal opportunity for members to mix with others that perhaps they don’t normally sit with.
Sign up sheets for various “jobs” were circulated amongst members and the response was very good – plenty of members signed up to make home-made cakes and savouries for the “Refreshment Room” on the day.
After considerable discussion with members and due to a change in the way information is accessed, Shirley Quilters has taken the decision to disband its Library. Therefore, at the meeting all books, patterns and DVDs were available for members to purchase for a nominal sum. There are still a large number available and these will be for “sale” at the Exhibition, again for a nominal sum.
Please do come along on Saturday 28th September to the Exhibition which will be held at Shirley Methodist Church, Eldon Avenue, Shirley, Croydon, Surrey CR0 8SD from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., £5.00 entry - you can be assured of a warm welcome.
