Bag Workshop with Kate - by Nicky P
Eight of us enjoyed Kate’s workshop on Saturday 25th January. It was a bright day, the room was warm and Kate had two bags for us to make.
From just two fat quarters, we first made a pouch bag. Some of us used a piece of patchwork cut to fat quarter size. This was ideal for using up blocks and fabrics from the stash bag. From the off-cut we made a smaller version, so no fabric was wasted. Depending on the size of the bag, it could be used as a laptop bag or a pencil case. Also good for storing small items of clothing, hair accessories or toys. Zipper tape was a new product for me and it worked well.
The second bag was a schlep bag. This was reversible and, like the pouch bag, came in different sizes. The biggest size is useful as a laundry/beach towel bag while smaller ones fold up easily to take shopping.
By 4pm we had all made several bags, each unique and straightforward to make.
Do see our Instagram account (shirley_quilters) for Erica’s photos of our bag collection. A big thanks to Kate for guiding us through the process and giving excellent tips along the way. It was a very enjoyable and satisfying day.
