Christmas Make, Prairie Point Star - by Chrissie
Our October meeting was devoted to our Christmas make for this year, a Prairie Point Star that Gill had kindly volunteered to teach us.
Kate began the evening with the notices of upcoming events that might be of interest to the group and also the sad news that Betty (a previous member of Shirley Quilters) had sadly passed away.
We moved on to the construction of our Prairie Point Stars - Gill had provided printed instructions as well as several lovely examples of completed stars and stars in progress so we could see exactly what we were aiming for. With our pre prepared Prairie Points and Gill’s encouragement we could all get stuck in to the making of the star, sixteen Prairie Points folded and stitched around a small circular pad. Gill was there to help us and give advice if we got stuck on the construction and we all made good progress. A fine time was had by us all and after a break for tea most of us finished our stars so that they could be photographed for posterity.
We had a show and tell at the end of the meeting with some lovely quilts from members and also (rather appropriately for October) several pumpkins made by `Jenny.
Many thanks to all who helped in providing a great evening and extra special thanks to Gill for her expertise and encouragement in demonstrating how to make the star.
