The Patchwork Collective: 150 years of Liberty - by Gill S
To celebrate Liberty’s 150th anniversary quilters from across the country and beyond we’re invited to submit a block or blocks they had created. Blocks had to be 25cm square, not backed and must include at least 60% Liberty fabric - other than that imagination was the only necessary requirement!
Originally the proposal was to create a supersized quilt but the end result is a supersized patchwork house.
As I was curious about how this could be achieved I went to view the installation. It was interesting to see the wide variety of patterns, techniques and materials used by different quilters.
The house is very tall and can be viewed from the balconies of the 2 floors above as well as ground level. Looking at the structure from different angles you can really appreciate all the work and creativity that has gone into making the house.
The patchwork house (and additional books displaying blocks that were not included in the house) is on display until 24th July 2025 on the first floor (and above), East Gallery.
It’s well worth a visit to see a quite unique structure.
