Contemporary Textile Art Exhibition

Freedom of Expression by CQ Surrey - by Jane M

We arrived at Denbies Vineyard in Dorking on a very wet and windy morning. This is a wonderful venue as it is a bright space with free parking and a lovely coffee shop!

The exhibition was beautifully set up around a central atrium which allowed you to walk around the square with exhibits on both sides.

It was not a large exhibition but the marvellous pieces were very diverse in subject and medium.

A challenge with the theme of wine was interpreted in many ways from 3D grapes on a vine to the history of a family losing their vineyard in Germany to the Nazis during WW2.

Many different materials were used expressing many varied thoughts and ideas in paint and fabric and then embellished using stitches in many different materials.

We saw many numerous design ideas that inspired us, which we hope to develop in our challenges for Shirley Quilters this year.

A thoroughly thoughtful and enjoyable exhibition, we look forward to the next one.
