2016 Missoni Art Colour

Missoni Art Colour - by Joyce

Missoni Art Colour
Fashion and Textile Museum. Finishes 4th September 2016
Bermondsey St. London, just behind London Bridge Station.

The exhibition explores the creative process of Italian fashion house Missoni in the context of 20th century fine art and showcases over 60 years of fashion alongside paintings by leading European abstract artists such as Sonia Delaunay, Lucio Fontana and Gino Severini.

Jane and I were very interested in the wallhangings comprising a patchwork of machine knitted pieces, samples of texture, patterns and unusual colour combinations.

There are many garments on models displaying the subtle use of colour and highlighting the elegance and softness of the knitted yarn which is the house's principal stylistic feature.

Explorations of colour and pattern worked out on squared paper gave an insight into the design process. These were then followed up with small knitted samples.

If you like colour and pattern, (and who doesn't) then you will enjoy this exhibition. There's a good pizza restaurant nearby too!
