2018 Orla Kiely

Orla Kiely Exhibition - by Jackie S

What a riot of colour and handbags! A fantastic exhibition, which ends on 23 September so I do recommend a visit even if you're not a massive Orla fan. The colours and designs are just mind-blowing. It's at The Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey Street - a short walk from Lon-don Bridge Station. Check out the website for more info.

There's a whole wall of handbags, possibly 100, every one in a different Orla Kiely style and col-ourway, plus a nice display of iconic 70s/80s dresses. Also on show are many original domestic items that we are so familiar with plus a display of photos of Orla Kiely's early life in Ireland, accompanied by a loop film of her, and others, talking about her life and design journey.

While I was there I enrolled for a “learn to crochet” workshop - something I've tried to teach myself without any success, so I'm hoping being shown will do the trick!

It's a small but fascinating exhibition - Hay's Galleria with interesting shops and leading to the Thames pathway is on Tooley Street, alongside London Bridge station, so a day out could be included.
